Rev. Paul-Cuong Phan
Vicar

I was born in Saigon, the former capital of South Viet Nam, in 1962. When the communists took over the whole country in 1975, my family escaped out to sea and was rescued by the U.S. Navy. We were among the first 125,000 Vietnamese refugees that settled in America. I went through six High Schools in San Jose and graduated from Independence High in 1980. Afterward, I worked as P.C. Board Designer for nine years while attending some colleges. After much discernment, I decided to enter the seminary to study for the Diocese of San Jose. I was sent to St. Joseph Seminary in 1990, and graduated at the University of San Diego in 1994. Then, I attended St. Patrick’s Seminary & University to be ordained a priest in 1999. My first three years of ministry had been at St. Joseph of Cupertino parish. I was later assigned to St. Patrick’s Proto Cathedral with the Vietnamese Personal Parish. I served Christ the King Parish from July 2005 until I was assigned to be a parochial vicar at St. Victor Parish in July of 2008. It is a privilege and honor to serve God through serving God’s people. Indeed, I have found true happiness in living my priesthood.

Rev. Jonathan Cuarto
Vicar

Fr. Cuarto was born and raised in Cebu, Philippines, is the youngest of eight children. Before entering the seminary, earned Bachelor of Science degree in marine transportation at University of Cebu-Maritime Education Center. Then worked as a sailor on a merchant marine vessel.

In 1996, he joined the Order of Saint Augustine, and studied Philosophy at Christ the King Mission Seminary in Quezon City, Philippines earning a BA degree in 1998. He then pursued theology studies at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila.

In 2001, he came to the United States and entered St. Patrick’s Seminary where he pursued his vocation for the Diocese of San Jose. On December 10, 2005, he was ordained a priest. His first assignment was at St. John the Baptist Church in Milpitas as parochial Vicar. His last parish was at St. Lucy in Campbell. He is happy to be part of St. Victor parish community as parochial vicar.

As permanent deacon, Mel assists and preaches in liturgies; officiates in baptisms, marriages, funerals, burial services, and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Being called to a great deal to the service of charity and justice, Mel hopes to start a core of ministry to the divorced, widowed and separated. The life-long ministry of Deacon Mel and wife Cecilia to one another in the Sacrament of Marriage of now 37 years is the springboard of Mel's ministry.
